Wherever possible, our homes use timber in preference over other building materials.
Timber plantations are a carbon-dioxide (CO2) sink. A CO2 sink is a carbon reservoir that is increasing in size, the opposite of a carbon "source". Modern power stations and cars burn fossil fuels and emit CO2 and are a source of CO2. Plants and trees take this CO2 into their leaves and through photosynethis convert it to oxygen (O2).
Timber used in construction is renewable, as more timber is grown as the mature trees are harvested. Pine plantations are also sustainable, as the trees require very little cultivation after planting.
