When we construct a cross section of a wall, we have plasterboard on the inner side and then R2.5 insulation is installed and covered by bracing ply.  The bracing ply is then covered by a reflective foil and, finally, the cladding is added, forming the outside of the wall.

This system gives a much higher rating than any one element, on its own.
